Shawayne Dunstan is a spoken word artist/poet and is a published author with five books sold locally in the Greater Toronto Area and on Amazon. Shawayne fell in love with poetry when he was young and inspired by his school teacher and other influences, he decided to take his writing more seriously.
Originally born in Kingston, Jamaica, Shawayne grew up in Toronto and North York but came to Malton in 2009. In 2017 Shawayne was awarded Mississauga's Young Citizen of the Year and now has 2 of his books circulating throughout the Mississauga Library System.
Currently Shawayne hosts book readings and spoken word/poetry workshops across Mississauga especially for youth and aspiring authors in Malton. Among many other things Shawayne is an entrepreneur, an actor, a cook, a recreation and leisure worker, a dancer, a singer and more.
On this episode we talk about how Shawayne fell in love with poetry, how he used it as an outlet to express himself and handle depression, and how washing dishes helped him publish his first book.
